Acting for Animation

Intention
The intent is to show what it's like for Wall-E to live his day-to-day life working as a garbage disposer.

"Whoa..." (He spots a romantic scene between two humans holding hands on the television. And in response, he does the same for himself; except holding both his hands together, taking it all in)

Specificity (Links to an external site.)

Throughout the duration of the first act of the film, it's mostly been Wall-E's routine where we the audience get to look at his life.

Execution:

The film's scenery and setting shows how much is contrast between us looking at Wall-E and the world he lives in. He is fully aware that garbage continues to become prevalent and simply continues to fulfill his purpose.

When he goes to sleep at the end of the second clip, you can feel how isolated he truly is in a world where there's no other robots like him. Even rocking himself to sleep says a lot about his social status, he knows he is alone.

POWER CENTERS:
For the most part, Wall-E's emotions are conveyed when he either speaks or expresses emotions such as sadness or anger.

Wall-E is a difficult character to convey emotions with. Always having a neutral pose where he's standing up with his arms out and head bent slightly with a head tilt. But his simplistic design makes up for it through the way he looks at certain things such as the objects and items he's acquired. That includes interacting with other robots and humans.

GESTURES & POSES:

Most of Wall-E's poses all center around having a neutral stance with his arms usually sticking out. But for the most part, it's the sense of expressive gestures he can do with his simplified limbs.
